This is yet another Pratchett book. But it isn't just another Pratchett book, because it is a Pratchett book that is a parody of the Phantom of the Opera. In other words, it couldn't possibly go wrong. And it did not, in fact, go wrong. It went perfectly right.
This book stars the Lancre Witches, and follows them as they go to Ankh-Morpork to recover the girl who is to be the new third witch in their Coven, as two is just the wrong number for a coven.
Now I know I've ranted before about how Pratchett had a problem writing endings for awhile, but there is absolutely no evidence of that in this book. In fact, this book couldn't have been put together much better if he'd spent years on it. The plot manages to suck you right in (Even moreso if you're a Phantom fan), and once you're in you're not gettin' back out anytime soon. The book goes until it's over, and it ends when it's done.
Just the way a good book should.
The only real problem with this book is that it relies a little too much on things established in previous books. Before reading this book, I would recomend reading at LEAST Lords and Ladies, if not Equal Rites and Wyrd Sisters, along with Witches Abroad and any other Discworld books you can get your hands on.
But I imagine this book could hold its own on its own merits, too, though, as Phantom is well known enough that it is approachable from that angle. Even if a new reader would be left asking some rather strange questions.
